    I know it's kinda hard to communicate when people already have difficulty grasping the instance concept, but I wish more mastodon new user guides would explain that 'mastodon' isn't all of the network.

      @lain Ive tried to do fed.ialis.me, which would mostly have been a guide to the fediverse, not mastodon's. I'm bad at writing to I asked for help and in the end no one wrote everyone.

      I'll probably extract part of it (like the directory, to fediverse.directory; the apps to fediverse.tools) and split the project in multiples ones.

      Maybe we should call them "entrypoints" or hubs or gateways or something.

      "instance" makes sense to those of us who are devops or devops-adjacent but that's about it.

        I hate "instance." Though non-techies who've played MMOs with instance dungeons may be familiar.

        "Server" or "node" would be better, imo. But that ship has probably sailed.
