I really don't understand the argument in favor of nationalizing the Internet. It's not the same kind of medium as the postal service. It has more in common with media and telecommunications industries.

The government shouldn't act as an ISP and shouldn't have any control/ownership of the Internet. If you thought government-controlled media and the surveillance state were bad, just imagine the natural progression where your nation has input on the whole thing.

    Decentralize, don't nationalize.

@deadsuperhero instslling a fiber cable is like building a road, it's a one time cost and should be covered by taxes. The routers/modems you then use at the end nodes to use the fiber you have to buy in the private market, just as the cars aren't provided for you by the Government. Though Gov can do free public Gigabit WiFi/Ethernet hookups at public parks, public libraries etc. It's basic logic.

@deadsuperhero ans then also the petrol or electricity that powers your car, just as the Internet Service Provider, you should pay for that and there must be many competitors as those Public fiber roads need to be available on the open market for any ISP to provide services onto.
