On "Black Friday":
Somewhere around fifteen years ago, everyone I knew was telling me that I absolutely had to go shopping at the day after Thanksgiving sales (known as Black Friday because of the strain it puts on the employees, who sometimes cannot even take bathroom breaks). So I went.
I did not stand in line six to eight hours, like some people did. Instead, I showed up about two hours after the Big Blue Discount Store opened. The place was wall to wall people, like sardines in a can. They were still jostling one another, made worse by the fact that we were physically touching the people around us. The store was way past their fire marshall limit and still crowding people in.
My budget was small, and there weren't a lot of things left that were both inexpensive and worth more than the price. And all I could think was the crowd trampling each other if a fire broke out. I grabbed a couple of things and got in line. #sonTwo wandered away, returning with a couple of other things. Over an hour later, we paid for our stuff.

I then went to KMart, but by that time, both the specially-priced goods and the crowd of people were gone. (I was not in a KMart again until about two years ago.) Or maybe they were already a ghost town.
I decided that day that I would never do that ("Black Friday" shopping) again.
