@bthall @sikkdays Also, I think there's a difference between the way many corporations are run and sensible business. For example, Twitter infests its users' timelines with advertising called "sponsored tweets". I'd have been fine with an always visible static (e.g., not flashing or animated) banner ad at the top of the page, and maybe a smaller ad (preferably text) along the side. That would have been a sensible way for them to make a stream of income without messing with timelines. Once they started, that wasn't enough. Now they add to your timeline people you don't subscribe to so they can "increase engagement"

In the long term, messing with users' timelines will _decrease_ engagement because they won't want to slog through the swamp of undesired and unrequested posts to try and view their desired and requested content. But corporations, at least in the US, have a short-term, dump sewage in the well kind of focus.

@lnxw48a1 @sikkdays @bthall to be fair you get one or two tops. Compare that to Facebook where you whole time line is shown by what they think is best for you to see while also having ads around.

I would rather have twitters model.

@vorticalbox @sikkdays @bthall To be honest, #Facebook was so awful when I used it that I gladly closed my account and blocked all their known domains. Even though I've not logged into my #Twitter account in months, I still have it.
