    We're looking at a skewed sample set when we look at well-made older objects. The poorly-made ones simply don't survive (whether they break or are discarded).

    So, in your dungeon haul with a gleaming magical blade, remember that there's probably a dozen rusted remnants rotting away beside it.

    For every amazing older lens in my camera bag, a dozen models were produced which no one remembers or desires.
