   @cwebber @h @vertigo Bitcoin is already well beyond the point of sustainability. The fact that fiat futures are being issued upon it is like the ultimate confirmation of its failure compared to the original aims.
   
   To try to be fair to Satoshi, I bet he never imagined that it would get to the scale it is now.

      @bob @vertigo @h Indeed, the hash of the original block of Bitcoin was quoting an article about the 2008 crisis as caused by crazy speculation. And here we are.

      But IMO the speculation part is actually a separate issue to analyze than the energy consumption issue. They're both concerns, but should be analyzed individually.
