    I don’t actually think any current isp will actually start turning the internet into cable tv packages, it’s not in their interest to do that

    Maybe they’ll charge video services more for peering deals, but I don’t think that was wrong to begin with. With decentralized services, blocking one centralized source becomes moot. And I think they don’t want to face the backlash of blocking a big service

      You miss the point. They block (rate limit) everything but the centralized services, which are easily extorted.

      @chosafine Facebook is already "free traffic" on many providers. Making Mastodon or Diaspora second-rate netizens (since Facebook will be able to pay for the "premium" access to users) is a simple business decision. Which will drive more people to Facebook and make the lock-in stronger.

      But sure, nothing to worry about.
