    Does anyone know copyright law? I have a question.

    Given that there are Poirot novels in the public domain in the US already, does that mean that it's possible to write, say, a story about Hercule Poirot as a time-travelling cyborg police detective and sell it for money without risking being sued by the Christie estate, at least in the US?
