   @ulfur I saw a video of Kasparov a while ago in which he kept uncritically referring to the US as "the free world". As if the US was some great political model to aspire to. Perhaps his thinking has improved since.

      @bob From the perspective of someone who lived through part of the USSR years and now sees Putin's rule, maybe it is reasonable to think that the US is near some aspirational ideal. Certainly enough of our Western left-wingers still think of the USSR, Mao's reign in China, and Cuba as ideal, though their repugnancy is manifest.
