A former housemate put these beds in several years ago, too close to the fence such that the mower won't fit behind them. This has been an annoyance. The fact that she only half-heartedly gardening in them for a year or two and then let them be taken over by weeds is a further annoyance. But now she's gone, and I'm going to try to rehabilitate (and move) them, starting with this one.
Once the plastic hopefully does it's thing for a couple of weeks I'll need to remove all the soil, relocate the frame, then fill it back in. After that, it'll be too late to plant anything to harvest so I plan to cover-crop it with beans until we get into frost territory, then tuck it in for a long winter's nap under a blanket of compost until I can plant potatoes in the spring.
I set up a camera in the compost bin a few days ago and I've been watching a skunk visit every night for several hours, as well as raccoons. I've known this was happening for years, but somehow witnessing it directly spurred me into action. I watched a racoon walk off with an entire breakfast burrito. That's a lot of stolen nutrients!
I had some lumber left over from an indoor remodeling project, and some chicken wire, so I boshed this together. We'll see how effective it is.
@Khurram Wadee Did you mean this one youtube.com/watch?v=YuIIjLr6vU…? It was a little too long for me but it does an insisting job at questioning the nature of the equal sign in the equation I wrote in my original post.
I should sue my #cat before the ICC for crimes against humanity for loudly whining at my bedroom door just 40 minutes after I laid down to sleep. However, since the cat is technically American, I don’t want the US to invade the Netherlands over it (real threat).
Between the precarious delivery drivers zooming around on e-bikes and the recent conversion of the New York City shared bikes to electric, I feel like either a rube or a hipster pedaling on my non-electric bike. 🤔
