   So, Update-Kaskade erfolgreich beendet. Der Auslöser war, dass ich meine Nextcloud aktualisieren musste. Dazu musste ich aber PHP aktualisieren, dazu musste ich aber das NAS aktualisieren, das wiederum klemmte zunächst beim Datenbank-Update ...

     Die einzelnen Schritte waren etwas nervig. Nextcloud-Updates sind ja recht problemlos, allerdings lasse ich meine Installation auf einem Synology-NAS laufen. Das wiederum hatte mir nur PHP 8.0 angeboten. Durch Zufall habe ich dann entdeckt, dass sie doch neuere Versionen anbieten - aber nicht für meine DSM-Version, die wiederum als "aktuell" im System stand. Weitere Recherchen ergaben, dass wohl das automatische Update ausgesetzt wurde, weil eine Systempartition zu voll geworden war. Also habe ich Platz geschaffen und das Update manuell durchgeführt. Das klappte dann fast - bis auf das Update der Datenbank. Da stellte ich dann durch Recherchen fest, dass dies daran liegen könne, weil man eine eigene Konfiguration für die Datenbank hat. Die musste ich also deaktivieren - und dann brach das Nextcloud-Update ab, weil nicht genug Hauptspeicher zur Verfügung stand, d.h. ich musste natürlich auch noch die Konfiguration von PHP anpassen.

     Aber jetzt scheint alles zu laufen.

   I was in a particularly contentious meeting last week. It was a one hour meeting, it took two hours, and in the first hour we discussed nothing about the points I thought the meeting would be about. Voices were raised, people were interrupting each other.

   I suggested that I should write the meeting minutes. I took several days to do so and I had a high level of anxiety while alternating between procrastinating (doing other tasks) and staring at the screen. I lost one whole night of sleep. In the end though, I had produced a document that I felt captured everyone's concerns and was a fair representation of what was really being discussed.

     I am pleased to say that while I dreaded the followup meeting today, it turned out to go very smoothly, was productive, and brought up several points we hadn't previously considered. We have a clear way forward that satisfies everyone.

     The most agitated party of last week had read my notes thoroughly, was happy that their points had been considered and validated, and had constructive and valid input to today's meeting.

     This will all make sure that we are working on the right things, solving the right problems and genuinely improving how the various teams do their work, rather than imposing some tools on them that just add to their daily frustrations.

     It's not even lunch yet, but I am already satisfied with my contribution today.

     @Hypolite Petovan I don't agree with everything and find a few things reactionary and uninformed, but I do agree with several things, possibly because I'm interpreting them through my own biases ... maybe he's more reactionary than I take him for:

     1. Many parents are overprotective and don't allow their kids to make mistakes.

     I have allowed my kid to take physical risk, and to brush it off if there's been no serious harm. At the same time I've been clear what risks are not acceptable, and why, and been compassionate and present when he has been hurt due to his own actions or those of others.

     2. We should be very careful and deliberate about how we allow kids to use social media.

     My kid has had internet devices early on, but we have recurring discussions about what he's watching, we watch many things together, and I've been careful with how much of his own words and voice he has been allowed to expose, and explained why, and he has gradually negotiated getting more of himself out there in a safe enough way.

     3. No phones during the school day.

     Yes, why, just why. Kid's school just doesn't allow it. There's enough time to play at home.

     4. Online friends cannot replace face to face interactions.

     Haidt and I probably mean this to very different degrees, but this is why I want to travel and meet more fedi people. And I'm glad that kid hangs with both entirely-internet friends but also classmates and former classmates when he's online, and we parents arrange for them to meet and do things in person outside school.

I wasn't able to find the acoustic drums in Necromonkey, even beyond the track you shared, The Kandisky Effect is too close to jazz improvisation for me, and The Comet Is Coming is almost there, still a bit too experimental/avant-gardist for me.

    If you have more suggestions I'll happily check them out, I'm once more amazed at the variety of music production.

    I've received a formal response by the Stack Overflow team, encouraging me to edit my profile to add any anti-AI statement I want. However, the 7-days ban means that I cannot perform this operation for a week. 🤡

    They've also added, and I quote:
    

    While we are working to get further clarity and better public messaging, it is our current understanding (based on this official statement from Stack Exchange meta.stackexchange.com/a/39963…) that these agreements with AI companies are a way to work with companies using Stack Exchange data to provide appropriate attribution (as per the CC by-SA license stackoverflow.com/help/licensi…), rather than simply providing answers without attribution, as many do today.

    The sad truth is that LLM systems cannot provide appropriate attribution by design. These systems are meant to generate plausible looking texts with unreliable accuracy. This includes attribution that will also be plausible-looking once it goes through the data mixer.

      @The Nexus of Privacy That's a cool timeline! And you actually have a receipt for "fediverse" in 2012-05, that's awesome.

      I agree that it wasn't in general use. The skilledtests group "fediverse", e.g., wasn't created until 2013-07.

      My timeline is based on people who were there agreeing that by the time Katsma was using it on Twitter in 2013-01, it had an established meaning.

      The term was in use before identi.ca left OStatus, as people were creating more servers and moving away ahead of time. I haven't been able to find a hard source for that claim though, sorry.
