   I recently started using #ElementX as my matrix client, which required me to set up a separate "syncv3" service alongside synapse on my homeserver. Works great.

   It's my understanding that Element X is a re-write that will eventually replace mainline "Element" in the app stores. What happens then to Element users who aren't using a sliding-sync-enabled homserver? Does it just break? Is sliding-sync going to be folded into Synapse/Dendrite? If so will syncv3 be deprecated?

   Talked to Mark and to S and informed them that I'll be leaving $EMPLOYER shortly. Both were glad for me.
   
   Mark and his wife have a baby, so he is also looking to escape the travelling life. S has some conflicts at home along with the issues that come with the job, so she's attempting to change both at once.
   
   I have not yet spoken with K or Kenny or Steve or Carlos or ... . I will probably just send a goodbye e-mail blast to most of my co-workers.

   Ok, I finally thought about that thing I should have thought about for a month or five. And I sent the email.

   After enough thinking it's a five-line email and a proposed minimal change in the application. Without the thinking it would have been a huge change.

   The best code to maintain is the code that never got written. I am happy with my workday and will go home a few minutes early.

   It's a boulder off my back and I am sighing of relief.

   Eine Sache, die ich total an Hamburg mag, ist dieser Sprachenmischmasch. Da hört man Englisch, Spanisch, Russisch, Türkisch und viele andere Sprachen, die ich nicht sofort zuordnen kann. Manchmal höre ich auch mal Deutsch dazwischen. 😀

     Wir haben auch viele asiatischen Sprachen. Aber da erkenne ich viele nicht. Spannend finde ich auch dieses spezielle Französisch, was in Teilen von Afrika gesprochen wird. Das hört man hier auch häufiger.

    I'm reading a report on polystyrene recycling in HK (we don't, many places don't) and the three Rs of waste management have now become four Rs:
    - Reduce
    - Reuse
    - Recycle
    - Recover, which means that burning trash and recovering energy is at least better than putting all of it in the landfill

    It feels pretty desperate to put that fourth R in there.

    So 1st son was waiting for his tax refund to fly me from #SoCal to #KCMO for a couple of weeks, but 2nd son's taxes arrived first. Now that I'm here in #MO, I intend to stay.
    
    Since I'm rearranging my life, I'll be quitting $EMPLOYER pretty quickly. I had intended to wait until I have a replacement, but I think it is better to change everything at once and walk away now.

    Villeneuve said he likes #DunePart2 because Part 1 was more setup and worldbuilding and in Part 2 he can allow more action.

    Exactly the reason I liked Part 1 more. 🤣

    Too much traveling and fighting, not enough war rooms! The first movie deserves all the time it takes, but I actually think Part 2 could have been a bit shorter.

    Loved the movie, obviously, especially that Chani gets more space, just comparing two films, both beautiful.
