In a racist society people lose sight of #classwar and get distracted. Oligarchy has long loved distractions such as #brexit -- all this while implementing #austerity and selling the #nhs to themselves.
Well, I don't know if the new #Brexit deal is better than PM May's deal in any sense; and I doubt that it will pass the present House of Commons. But at least we now know that #BorisJohnson was negotiating in good faith.
@fitheach@espectalll Do you have any idea whether British public sentiment is more strongly worried about a no-deal #Brexit or desires to get things over with? I see a recent poll giving Tories + Brexit party 47% support, so perhaps the latter.
Regarding the *Spectator* article, the source is clearly trying to lay blame on the Benn Act and Taoiseach Varadkar for failure of the latest British #Brexit proposal. That could be true, but it's obviously self-serving.
@espectalll Not sure exactly what you mean here. If you're saying that they're focusing on high stakes negotiations with foreign leaders — well of course they are. If you're saying that their desire to achieve #Brexit one way or another is out of step with public sentiment — that might be true, but personally I don't really know the present state of public opinion in the UK. (I know @fitheach opposes, but not how representative he is.) Do we have useful polling results?
@espectalll You can't really trust any leaks from difficult negotiations, but the message at the following link, from a Downing Street source, is interesting:
"what’s at stake is not winning some stupid blame game. At stake is the future of Europe and the UK as well as the security and interests of our people. You don’t want a deal, you don’t want an extension, you don’t want to revoke, quo vadis?" Donald Tusk
J'admets que je trouve #Brexit cinq fois plus intéressant que la politique canadienne ces jours. Je désirais plus regarder les discours de Boris Johnson que le debat des chefs.
It’s probably ignorance of British politics on my part, but as far as I can tell the parliament chose Boris Johnson as their leader and then immediately blocked everything he promised to do. What was the point of that, exactly?
