#Medium now fully completed their paywalling efforts. The public page's now completely inaccessible without logging in.
Unsuspecting visitors to Medium's #articles now can't #read them unless they lock themselves into the platform.
The ability to search for new #content written by independent creators? Gone! The goal's to usurp content created by others free of charge to make you pay the centralized platform to access it.
#Plume exists to combat this, using the power of the #fediverse.
Nice mission statement of the #fediverse (which Snowden uses to describe 90s Internet): "purpose was to enlighten, not to monetize, and it was administered more by a provisional cluster of perpetually shifting collective norms than by exploitative, globally enforceable terms..."
We just turned on ActivityPub support at socialhome.network to get more users to test it and thus speed up fixing the remaining issues and bringing better compatibility across other #Fediverse platforms.
PLEASE NOTE, this are a bit alpha still, so in the master branch by default ActivityPub support is off. It can be turned on by setting the environment variable SOCIALHOME_ACTIVITYPUB_ALPHA=True.
Finally flipped the switch! ActivityPub support is very alpha still but far enough that dogfooding is becoming the only efficient way forward.
Plus it's my birthday, so let this be a present to myself, after so much work to make this little project of mine multi-protocol, joining #Friendica and #Hubzilla in having the largest reach in the #Fediverse ;)
