@musicman you may have been ahead of your time. It happens. I remember describing something resembling the #fediverse to my colleagues in Indymedia back in the early 2000s, as a more resilient alternative to centralized sites whose servers could be seized by authorities. I also remember describing something resembling what is now called "cloud hosting", as another way to avoid that, well before that became an industry norm.

Instance death is to the #fediverse as sea level rise is to #ClimateChange, in that both are now inevitable, and both create refugees. #Discuss ...

@LWFlouisa @LPS exactly. Or how the EU or UN actually work (in some aspects anyway). Some people are only learning about the concept of #federation in the context of the #fediverse, but as you probably know, it's been a key part of #anarchist theory and practice for centuries. If anyone is keen to learn more about that, here's as good a place to start as any:

@LWFlouisa @LPS Those experiences with Indymedia got me thinking about decentralized open publishing, long before I ever heard of Identi.ca and StatusNet (the projects that gave rise to the #fediverse as we know it today).

I want to create some matrix that tell about the various fediverse software talk each other.
e.g. if i use mastodon, will my post reach friendica?
Other matrix could cover the DM support, the ability to follow or block users, the ability to share, fav, boost...

This could help people in the choice of their preferred fedisoftware...

Do something like i want to create exists already?

This was also the first time I've seen a comment stream under a video, made up of comments coming in from the #fediverse. I even recognized one of the commenters as a mutual follow. That's pretty exciting ;)

The other thought is that a lot of people in the media world, including academics, have a reasonable understandings of the problems networked media can create, but a very limited awareness of the potential solutions offered by technologies like the #fediverse. Maybe free code geeks need to spend more time helping journalists, media academics, and activists educate themselves about this?

@lightweight have you looked into hosting photos and videos using #Hubzilla? That could be a way to make them available both on the open web and in the #fediverse @daviding
