End of summer-Stay me with flagons, comfort me with apples: for I am sick of love.

It will soon be time to wrap up the garden. The beans are stringy, squash are fading, carrots are ready to pull. Time to add compost, cover crops or straw. The honeycrisp apples are ready. They will be sliced very thin and dried into chips.

Good morning... end of summer poem

Here's to the old apple tree,
Bud and blow,
And bear apples enow,
Hats-full, caps-full, three -bushel bags-full
And some for the boys to steal

This is how I know the apples are ready... School is back in session. Apples go missing. When walking the dog I find bitten and discarded apples.
