Here's how I understand it. A #WebRTC server performs the initial introductions between peers who want to chat, then gets out of the way and lets them chat peer-to-peer. But if it's a video chat, between 3 or more peers, that's a lot of video streams being sent by each peer to all the others. So #VideoBridge relays the video stream sent by each peer to all the other peers.
A customer pushed my boss to use #skype for a meeting.
I showed him #Jitsi: no installation, no accounts, just a link to share, same features (we will use it just for desktop sharing, calls will be via phone because we don't have microphones/headphones/speakerphone connected to pc).
This morning he made me create a skype account and share with the customer.
@clacke group chat is all #JitsiMeet does. The voice/ video uses #WebRTC and their own #VideoBridge software. It's a totally separate thing from the #Jitsi#XMPP client. AFAIK it doesn't support XMPP and if it supports #SIP that's news to me. @xj9
@forktogether >This is currently the most accessible option for now
what does make matrix or other #webRTC like #jitsi less accessible? Is that caused by the design of the software or simply because those that are part of the fork use #discord instead of something else?
@maloki here's the first feedback: I wouldn't want to join just for the reason of not using proprietary software when their is an alternative. #jitsi works great, same does #matrix @Loa
Tried Jitsi for a video meeting on platform coops today. Very easy to use, free, no registration, good quality. Chat, etherpad, screen-sharing... #jitsi#noskype
@bobjonkman From what I remember, they were trying to get the community to take over the #Jitsi #XMPP & #SIP client in order to focus on #JitsiMeet (which seemed to be a service built atop #WebRTC).
I thought #Jitsi was a multi-headed client for XMPP and SIP communication. Apparently #JitsiMeet is more. If you think it's a valid "Free Software Social Media platform" then feel free to add it to the list! It's a Wiki, after all. I can use the extra help :)
people asked for opensource alternative to #discord:
#jitsi opensource software for video/audio calls. Can be used via app or browser. Has an untegrated chat. Software can be implemented in other chat plattforms
#matrix federated messaging protocol, you can create or join chatroom, have private conversations, and search for different rooms. rooms can be invite only. file sharing possible. Has jitsi integrated
#movim social network based on #xmpp. jitsi calls, chatrooms, communuties ...
