civilization^Wthe economy maybe collapsing, but sunshine gardens will keep living on in my sister's basement (for now). expect some scheduled downtime in the next week or two when I move the server.
both my roommate and my spouse lost their jobs recently because of pandemic and we don't have nearly enough donations coming in to cover the hosting costs as a community. if you can please donate on liberapay link is here:
i would argue that the meaning of a CW is culture specific and could be done better all around on both the technical and social aspects. you aren't going to get everyone to agree on what to CW and what value CWs have. won't happen because culture varies too much on here.
AP isn't designed for private group messaging and its obviously true that you can't make public data private once it has been published. it does not follow that private group messaging is impossible though.
the issue here is trying to create a secure private messaging protocol out of AP, which is clearly not designed with privacy or security in mind.
In 1998, a programmer who had been working on Y2K fixes started to get anxious because he couldn't believe how pervasive the problem was. He switched from company to company trying to get away from it, but everywhere he went he became regarded as the Y2K expert and immediately became the team lead for that company's Y2K contingencies. He finally had a nervous breakdown, quit his job, and decided he wanted to be knocked unconscious when the Y2K actually came about.
A month before Y2K he was put into an artificial coma and cooled down to a near cryogenic easily sustained long term life support.
Unfortunately the life support notification system had a Y2K bug, and no one revived him for 8000 years.
Finally he was found and revived. He woke up, and saw himself surrounded by lots of glass, light, stainless steel, and tall beautiful people in white robes. He asked if he was in Heaven.
They replied, "No, this is Chicago. Actually but it's a lot like Heaven to someone like you."
"Someone like me?"
"You are from the 20th century. Many of the problems that existed in your lifetime have been solved for thousands of years. There is no hunger and no disease. There is no scarcity, or strife between races and creeds."
"What year is it now?"
"Yeah, about that - it's the year 9,998. You see, the year 10,000 is coming up, and we understand you know something called COBOL?"
from my perspective its about as good as openrc and runit. systemd dominates because it has RHEL/GNOME behind it and most of the linux world goes with whatever they say.
when ssg 3.0 comes out we might be able to offer paid hosting for feddy stuff.
thinking about offering free domains under pikabu.moe or one of the other domains i've been hoarding. a custom domain would be on you to rent. might team up with @sir for the registrar rec thing if his project happens.
probably won't open up for business for a while, but the plan is to operate as a cooperative doing different hosting things and contracting gigs to keep the lights on long-term.
time to focus on the real issue at hand: end intellectual property, end copyright, end software licenses altogether: dedicate all of your work to the public domain.
The fact is, people who base their self-worth on being right about everything prevent themselves from learning from their mistakes. They lack the ability to take on new perspectives and empathize with others. They close themselves off to new and important information.
