Having fun experimenting with Armory3D , the FOSS, next gen game engine designed to run inside of Blender using all of it's UI / shortcut conventions.
Experimental, early days yet, but I have big ambitions! 😆

15 #System76 laptops arrived today at the library. These were provided by grant money and will form the foundation of our #OpenMediaLab :) #publiclibrary #open_source #Linux
Mozilla recommends a bunch of password managers in this blog post and none of them are Open Source. No Bitwarden, no Keepass. Only LastPass, Dashlane and 1password.
Now, while this isn't a big deal, and they're all excellent options, you'd expect that Mozilla would recommend some #OpenSource password managers as well. #privacy

Hello, my name's Tom and I'm working on an #opensource alternative search engine using Gigablast as a base. Up until recently, I used @tomdienstbier as my main account #introductions

Dear #fediverse. I work as an #architect and design buildings that harm the planet. I am looking for a practicing #engineer who can teach me building energy modelling using #opensource tools. I have a background in software dev, run #gentoo #linux and am willing to learn down to the details.
I do not have a background in heat transfer or thermodynamics, which is why I am asking for a tutor.
I promise to use this to design better buildings.
Please help retoot this so I can find someone.
It just occurred to me that #GitHub ran out of money and had to sell themselves to MS. While companies like #Loomio, whose code is 100% free under #AGPL, and #Wire (A/GPL), are still in business. Doesn't that prove that the infamous "#OpenSource almost everything" creed of the GH founders is a failure, and you might as well free all your code? (looking at you #GitLab)

@humanetech I don't think MS have been won over on the benefits of #OpenSource development. If it was that, their acquisition announcement would have included liberating the last few non-free bits of GH. Not to mention their many other chunks of non-free software (Windows, Office etc). AFAICT MS is primarily a *user* of other peoples's #FreeCode, not a free code developer.
2018 was incredible for the Matrix ecosystem - huge progress in a multitude of projects. Take a look at https://matrix.org/blog/2019/01/17/bens-favourite-projects-2018/ and see what @benparsons@twitter.com, Developer Advocate for Matrix thought went well #opensource #decentralization
#UNICEF wants to invest in #FreeSoftware "The Fund provides investment-style funding for early-stage, #OpenSource technology solutions that address the most pressing challenges faced by children and young people", further "UNICEF requires that all code, content or hardware developed and tested be open source and be publicly available."... Great initiative! https://www.ungm.org/Public/Notice/82482
Excellent article by @aral exposes hypocrisy of some well-respected organizations, including Mozilla and GNOME foundation:
I wish, wish, wish there was an open source version of MarcEdit. Any #code4lib peeps out there listening? #library #open_source #software

@ink_slinger yea I've never found a "library management" application that wasn't garbage to use.
maybe a fun #opensource project to hack on
Ordered a nice portable soldering iron online the other day, just got it in the mails. Looks really neat, powers off a laptop psu (18-24v) . Has a usb connector, turns out, it's a mass storage device, you can change the settings with a text file, you can upgrade the firmware, firmware is opensource, people have made alternative firmware for it, schematics are available and you can change the bootup logo...
I am like 'wat?'.
TS-100, now my favourite soldering tool...
Can’t wait to get going 💥💥💥
