I found an interesting app that should prove useful for #fiction#writing. It is #FLOSS freemium software for Windows, MacOS, and GNU/Linux. The interface is really nice, and I can see it being very useful for keeping track of characters, story ideas, etc.
My first open source pull request was to bootstrap, it may have been rejected but that never stopped me from getting more interested in open source and web dev! #openSource
Mycroft is the world’s 1st open source voice assistant such as Siri.
Mycroft runs anywhere – on a desktop Linux computer, inside an automobile, or on a Raspberry Pi.
This is all open source which can be freely remixed, extended, and improved. Mycroft may be used in anything from a science to an enterprise pplication.
This is nice! It looks like the Government of Canada's Directive on the Management of Information Technology now says "Where possible, use open standards and open source software first" and goes on into detail with more guidance. I'm fully in favour of this sort of thinking, especially since it's a more free and sustainable approach https://www.tbs-sct.gc.ca/pol/doc-eng.aspx?id=15249#GCdigital#OpenSource#FreeSoftware
Canada's Directive on Management of IT Dec 2018 update requires open standards and open source software to be used as a first option where possible #opensource
* Favour open source solutions * Favour non-prorietary solutions * Source for custom-built solutions must be released under open source licenses through Government of Canada sites
It reminds me of the similar #Baffler piece about Tim O'Reilly, which all but ignores the existence of RMS or anyone else who doesn't fit into its narrative that #OpenSource is all a conspiracy by O'Reilly and Silicon Valley: https://thebaffler.com/salvos/the-meme-hustler
I think the solution to this is to talk to developers who are applying the Peer Production License to software about the #FourFreedoms, and why #SoftwareFreedom is important, find out what their goals are in choosing this license, and help them brainstorm other ways of achieving those goals. Lecturing them about #OpenSource, I suspect, will not help much. https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html
