"The basic insight behind Prio is that for most purposes we don’t need to collect individual data, but rather only aggregates. [Prio] does this by having the browser break the data up into two “shares”, each of which is sent to a different server. Individually the shares don’t tell you anything about the data being reported, but together they do... Over the next few months we’ll be doing further testing..."

A new version of my favourite privacy friendly web browser called Privacy Browser for Android has just been released.

It blocks JavaScript, cookies and all other goodies by default and it supports both global and per-domain settings for everything you can think of, like JavaScripts, trackers and cookies.

It makes browsing the modern web on my 3 year old phone actually decently fast.

    And it's available via @fdroidorg. :)

Apparently at least one major government had an insider working undercover at Twitter:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/20/us/politics/saudi-image-campaign-twitter.html

It doesn't really matter if Twitter is trustworthy or not, simply having a vast amount of personal data in one place is going to attract spies from all sorts of organisations that wish to misuse it.

This is why decentralisation is important, to make it technically more difficult to invade people's privacy.

Identity Thieves that *copy* data from Surveillance companies are doing this same thing as those companies - using data of our lives against us without our input or control.

We should have control over our data.

    This is a political issue.

Technology has only and will only continue to allow this surveillance at massive scale.

Vote, run for office, conduct civil disobedience (if you’re willing to face the consequences), call your representatives and hold them accountable.

Note: when a breach claims “stolen data” nothing is stolen.

Stolen implies that the original content is no longer available.

    Data is copied.

This is why breaches at Equifax, Experian, Transunion (TLO), etc. have little impact on those corporations.

    They can still do business.

    1. Denmark Makes Email Encryption Compulsory for Businesses.
      from Tutanota
Widely unnoticed, Denmark is the first country to require businesses to encrypt emails containing sensitive personal information end-to-end, starting January 1, 2019. This rule is a strict interpretation of Article 9 of the European GDPR. It is the first time a country has made email encryption mandatory — but it is expected that more countries will follow the Danish example. This comes as yet another indicator that the protection of sensitive personal data must be prioritized by any company doing business in Europe.

    1. How to Leave Google Behind: Quick Guide to Take Back Your Privacy Online.
      from Tutanota
For many the Internet is Google: Search, mail, videos - Google is the major player in all these fields. But Google uses all data it gathers across its services to post targeted ads, and to massively profit from the data many share so freely with the Internet giant. The time has come to stop this unlimited data mining and to take back our right to privacy! Here's a quick guide as to how you can use the Internet without sharing all your data with Google.
