@simsa04 Home. Or non-home, since my family will have moved before my travel day and I'm planning on relocating to #sonTwo's house this year.
-
#sonTwo put the boys on #videochat yesterday after they had visited a pick-your-own farm. #GS4 (age 1) ate everything he picked, while #GS3 (age 3) filled the bucket.
They love fruit.
During the chat, GS3 showed me his new monster truck toy (a little bigger than a Hot Wheels toy). GS4 was eating a sandwich and kept calling me "Dadda" and "Papa", then (after sonTwo corrected him) he'd call me "Gan'pa" before starting over with Dadda. He ate about half the sandwich before he held it too low and it became dog food.
The new puppy is teething, so they need to have lots of chew toys to stick in front of it whenever it tries to chew something it shouldn't chew. Hopefully, this time they can weather the storm long enough to get the doggy past that stage. A prior puppy's chewing got so bad that they took it to sonTwo's in-laws because it even tried to chew on GS3.
The existing dog has learned to escape from human children when it wants a little rest, but the doggy child goes into the backyard when the older dog goes out.

#sonTwo reports that #GS3 has now figured out how to unlock and open the front door. He went outside into the (currently unfenced) front yard. The dog went out with him, so he was protected from untrusted adults, but the dog won't keep him out of the street.
They're getting a chain lock to prevent him from getting out and will be calling a fencing company soon. I also suggested putting in another baby gate.

#sonTwo and his wife took the boys to a little carnival thing. Being 3 and 1, the primary thing they let them do was go into toddler bounce rooms. #GS3's bounce room had little obstacles and he got to meet some new friends, so he tried to hide when it was time to leave.
#GS4's bounce room had other 1 and 2 year olds, but they did not interact with each other.

#sonTwo's $EMPLOYER had already scheduled this week as active shooter training. Now it takes on new urgency.
-
#sonTwo took the boys to a place where you can pick your own strawberries. #GS3 really enjoyed filling the basket. #GS4 ate everything he picked.

@simsa04 When I first started travelling for work, #sonTwo would call me and not talk. I didn't understand it and it annoyed me. It was only later that I figured out that it was his way of "sitting in the same room while we do our separate tasks".

#Daddy_A reports that he had a reaction to some medication a few days ago and wanted to go to the hospital, but couldn't because his wife was already hospitalized and there was no one to take care of the kids.
I asked #sonTwo to call him and find out what we can do to help, but apparently, he recovered without intervention. (I also mentioned that #sonOne is 2-3 hours away, which is about 3 hours closer than #sonTwo.)
Anyway, he's better now and is repurposing a #Raspberry_Pi 3 that I sent for #A1 into a project combined with an #Arduino UNO R3.

Tonight's call with #sonTwo was about:
1. @moon@shitposter.club's dad (trying to be helpful, but stepping akl over his son's life)
2. Coinbase, TerraUSD
3. Some negotiations he's doing with his side gig; they're not charging their customers enough, so they cannot pay the employees enough
4. The rap / hip hop group I saw at the park this evening and the frequent random musical acts that just appear, play a few songs and disappear.
-
I saw a headline earlier with the BK word and Coinbase in the same sentence, but hadn't stopped to read it.
I'm sure @guizzy@pleroma@guizzyordi.info can give the exact wording, but there's a saying in the cryptocurrency world that if your coins & tokens are not held in an offline wallet that only you control, they are not really yours.
The point of cryptocurrency is about weakening the power of the intermediaries who currently choose the winners and losers. One cannot do that while simultaneously leaving one's holdings in the custody of yet another intermediary.
We should think of exchanges as places for money in transit, not as places for money at rest. Western Union, not Bank of America.
That said, it is alarming that the word bankruptcy is being bandied around and as far as I know, their customers have not been warned of the danger.
I will inform both #sonTwo and #Daddy_A, in case either of them has an account and left some currency in the account.

Got a full hour of #videochat with #GS3 and 45 minutes with #GS4 tonight. Their other grandparents will be visiting for the next couple of weeks, so we will take a break.
The younger one is thrilled with a book 📕 that has places to feel dinosaurs. Not that anyone knows what a dinosaur 🦕’s skin felt like. The older one is pushing buttons on a talking, singing electronic toy.
I told them (and #sonTwo) that the only career that will always have jobs is plumbing, but that I will try to prepare them as much as I can for the things I know.
I also mentioned that their cousin #A1 is getting a micro:Bit and a couple of projects for it.

I got sentimental. Years ago, when I first got web hosting, I bought (or more accurately, rented) some domains. One of those was for a business venture that #sonTwo was attempting to launch. A few years later, he changed directions and said it was okay to let it go. Once the domain expired, it was immediately snapped up by a domain squatter and I regretted losing it. Over the years, I'd occasionally check to see whether the squatter had given up.
Tonight, I checked and it was available, so I got it. Our daily telephone call will start momentarily and I will inform him then.

I just got off the phone with #sonTwo. Both he and his wife got tested for a particular set of genetic mutations. He has one mutated version, she has another mutated version. The kids' tests have not come back yet, but there's a good chance.
The doctor mentioned some pretty major dietary changes.
They're having to attempt to eat a healthier diet on a pretty low income.

#sonTwo and his wife put #GS3 and #GS4 on a #videochat with me tonight. The younger child was very hungry, as though he hadn't eaten all day ... even though I had seen video of him turning down more food earlier today. The older child found two toys that sing the same song, so he's been pushing the buttons to make them sing together.
-
On today's phone call with #sonTwo, I said I'd bought one more thing for #GS4, and that I wasn't planning to spend any more money on this assignment.
He laughed and said "Yeah, right. If you're there a couple of months, you'll buy them something else."
After the next shipment of diapers, I'm going to see who is right.

It’s a boy!
#sonTwo and his wife took #GS3 and #GS4 to a park, where they revealed that their upcoming sibling is a boy by making a volcano with blue lava.
-
Today’s #videochat with #sonTwo, #GS3, #GS4 was short. Their dinner was delayed and the kids were hungry. As soon as it was ready, we disconnected, so they could eat and start preparing for bedtime. The 1 year old grandson babbled something and then said something that sounded like “Grandpa” before babbling some more.
-
#sonTwo needed a better laptop for his side gig, so I walked down to Best Buy and ordered one. AMD Ryzen 9, 16GiB of RAM, 1TB SSD. Hopefully it will meet the need. It was expensive enough that I can’t buy another one if that one doesn’t work out.
-
#sonTwo confirmed yesterday that #GS3 and #GS4 should have a younger sibling later this year.
-
This weekend, I had my regular #videochat with #sonTwo, #GS3, #GS4. The younger child had missed his nap, so he had gone to bed early. He heard Grandpa's voice and started crying until they brought him out to see me.
He tried to give me his bottle, then raised his arms to say "pick me up". At one year old, he hasn't quite grasped that the person in the tablet screen cannot just step through the glass. He's quite sleepy, but I think he's going to resist sleep as long as he can.
The three year old was repeating back everything I said, then he showed me his Spiderman toy and his book. Spiderman talks when you pull the string, so he got distracted with that and forgot about Grandpa until time to say goodnight.
There must have been some TV show where a character speaks in a growling voice, because GS3 kept reverting to that voice.
I did not have this week's call with #sonOne, #GD1, and #GD2. We'll have to try for next weekend.
