#sonTwo reports that his wife and #GS3 are sick. #GS4 was sick a few days ago, but has recovered.
Meanwhile, #Daddy_A reports that the stress of his wife's recent hospitalization aggravated one of his medical problems, and that the doctor is considering which medication to put him on ... for the rest of his life.

#sonTwo and his wife are using treats to reward desired behaviors by #GS3. Recently, the child earned a treat, and when he was presented with it, he said "I want four treats".
-
#sonTwo talking about expanding his job search's geographical reach. Probably most of the country is in scope now. Which also means they need to get their house ready to sell.
-
#sonTwo (age 34) called me last night right at bedtime, so he could ask me whether his rΓ©sumΓ© should include college course he took twenty years ago. Me: you haven't used any of that in over fifteen years. It is not relevant to what you can do for an employer.

#sonTwo told me that their printer stopped working about five years after I sent it. He went to all the usual places looking for a replacement, but the only thing he could find were the ones that sing and dance and do everything for $1,000 or more.
I went ahead and ordered them a laser printer that just prints. No scanning, faxing, or transmitting messages to Mars. It still seemed abnormally expensive at 1/3 the price of the ones he saw. I remember getting a decent home laser printer for about $120.

Talking with #sonTwo about online classes. He looked at #LinkedIn / #LockedOut Learning, but they're not very good, IMO.

Unless something changes quickly, I think #sonTwo and his wife are going to sell their house and move. The field that he is trying to break into is oversaturated in his current location.

@clacke When #sonTwo was young enough that replacing or repairing his phone was my responsibility, immersion resistance and impact resistance were things I looked for. He once dropped a phone from a balcony at school. It landed in a puddle of water. Was it the fall or the water that killed it? I don't know, but it cost me money to replace it.

According to #sonTwo, 5 of the 8 people in his group at work are out with #COVID-19.

Rush Hour inspired a few moments at home.
One time, I was driving with #sonTwo in the car. The radio is playing, and he reaches over to change stations. I said something to the effect of "never touch a Black man's car radio" ... which was a line from the film.

During our #videochat, #GS4 grabbed #sonTwo's Diet Coke and spilled it all over himself. Prior to that, #GS3 felt that the younger child was competing for attention that only he deserved.
Grandpa must make sure that both of them know they are loved and that there is enough attention for both of them.

#sonTwo and his wife called and said that the planetarium projector is likely to be #GS3βs favorite gift of the year. He spent an hour last night before bed watching stars β¨ and planets πͺ , then got out of bed and brought the projector into his bed.
So far, no feedback from #A1 β¦ they may be holding the kidsβ items for Christmas.
#GD2 contacted me directly to tell me that she liked her gifts π, but no details.

I ordered some things that #sonTwo needs in his 2nd job. Then I forgot to tell him I'd ordered them. Boxes started arriving today and I got text messages about them.
Oh, I forgot to tell you. There's another box coming tomorrow. And they're probably not the same brands or quality, but they're good enough to tide you over until the pay allows you to buy better stuff.
Why isn't his employer buying it? Well, because people typically take it with them when they leave for another place or to start their own business.

#GS3 got his dinosaur sweatshirt today. He got to wear it as he helped #sonTwo with the leaf blower.
This kid loves machinery. They probably would have gotten more work done with a simple rake, but the boy wouldn't have enjoyed trying to use a rake as much.

Had a talk with #sonTwo. He and his wife want me to move into their house for six months to a year. They aren't moving out. They want me to live with them.
I'll be fine visiting for a week or two at a time. If I had a job in that area, I might even accept an offer to stay for 2-3 months, until I got an apartment. But I don't want to be there longer.

Boxes ready to ship for #sonOne's kids and for #Daddy_A's kids. #sonTwo's kids' shipment is mostly, but not completely ready.
Walked into a mall to look for something for my mom, but it was all Louis Vitton and Gucci ... that sort of store.

Conversation with #sonTwo about a project that he and I and #Daddy_A are supposedly working on. I said I haven't done much of anything toward it this year. He admitted the same.
Anyway, I had said I'm not used to it, because I've always been the one that worked a full-time job (plus sometimes a part-time job), attended college / university full-time, and still tried to spend time with the kids.
He said, "You're old, and you've been burning the candle at both ends since before I was born. It's understandable that you're running out of energy."

Talked briefly with #sonTwo about cameras. With the cellphoneβs battery discharging so quickly, Iβm starting to rely more heavily on the $99 Walmart special from a few years back (I canβt recall whether this was 2019 or 2017) and starting to desire something better.
(For one thing, this is point and shoot, which is what I want, but it sometimes takes it a while to focus, especially if the target is in motion. It refuses to take the picture until it thinks the photo is in focus.)
But no, Iβm not looking to drop $1000 or more on a camera that is not contemplated to ever be used to make money.

There was a kid in middle school with #sonTwo and #Daddy_A who had no thumbs or big toes, so his shoes always fit weirdly and eroded in an unusual pattern. My old shoes are not worn in the same pattern, but they are tilted in an unusual manner of their own.
I'm not comparing myself with him, just saying the unusual wear pattern reminds me of him.

I'd like to see whether a bunch of people born in 1985-1990 understand computers enough to:
(1) download a zipped file of their choice to their Downloads folder;
(2) go to their Documents folder and create a subfolder named "[zipname]_content" ... if the zipped file was "abc.zip", then the created folder should be "abc_content";
(3) extract the zipped file's contents into their newly created folder;
(4) open a program, navigate to the folder, and open the extracted contents in that program.
I suspect that this Xennials subgroup is too narrowly drawn when thinking about computer skills. I know that most people at work younger than about 30 years old cannot do the above. I am not sure whether 30-35 year olds can do so.
I do agree that there was a big change in child rearing between 1977 kids and 1987 kids. ( For example, #sonOne and his friends could get on their bikes and go for a ride together; #sonTwo and his friends were always accompanied by someone's parent. There were also changes in how kids got to and from school. )
