    I have an old server stored at #sonTwo’s house. He’s about to activate it so he can practice server & network administration. He hasn’t shown a lot of interest in #SysAdmin since he switched to Photography late in high school, so of course I was happy to give him control over it.

    Anyone who suggests using 0.0.0.0/8 or subdividing 127.0.0.0/8 doesn't understand the real world Internet. Those addresses would be unusable for decades. We still have devices that don't speak CIDR, and that's 25 years old.

    Add IPv6 and be done with it. #sysadmin

    You can tunnel anything inside SSH.

    You can tunnel SSH inside DNS.

    You can tunnel DNS inside HTTPS.

    So, with #DoH, allowing web access means allowing everything. #sysadmin

    I've been analysing a fail2ban logfile, for a server which is used for: HTTP, IMAP & SMTP. I was amazed to discover that bans for SSH infringements outnumber those for all other sevices combined by a factor of 15:1.

    But thankfully it's not that hard to roll out your own "DDoS protection" (or caching; just call it caching) setup. Here, you can even use our configs: https://git.occrp.org/libre/fasada

    Yes, we use them in production, serving sometimes hundreds of thousands views per day.
