I ordered a new printer yesterday, and just plugged it in to the network and turned it on for the first time, then came back to my desk. I was greeted by a notification from my #Ubuntu desktop that my new printer was ready to use.
Is this ... the year? Did it happen?

I just installed #Ubuntu Server in a VM and was really surprised that it offers you directly during installation to install some services... The second option is already #Nextcloud 🙂

@ksclarke So Kwin has been a little crash-prone for me on lately. As a result, I've been exploring the #Budgie flavor of #Ubuntu. It seems like it is a nice compromise between the smaller footprint of Plasma and the GTK based Gnome. Also, it is quite beautifully designed. Ever look at it?

@bob my thoughts exactly. If the device you have works with #Heads, why use #Tails? If it works with #Trisquel or vanilla #Debian, why use #Ubuntu? The whole problem with blobs is that we have no idea what that code actually is, or what it might be doing. It's not #FreeCode, and it can't be openly audited.

@tootbrute I don't trust #Ubuntu, and although I haven't tried it since they abandoned their #Unity bloatware, I used to find it unsuitable for any device older than about 2 years.

Can anyone give me some advice on granting access to hardware using #Ubuntu #snaps #ffmpeg ? I'm trying to capture video using an easycap clone. I've given the snap access to #alsa but ffmpeg still complains that it can't access hw:2,0 . Any ideas?

Tried installing my Steam games on a microsd card, and it didn't work. Reformed ext4 and then it did. Turns out that Steam needs to be able to create symbolic links.
