@bhaugen@ldubost I'm using #ABrowser on Trisquel 8 (basically deblobbed #Ubuntu). ABrowser is basically #Firefox, minus all the proprietary bits and anti-features, plus any privacy protection turned on by default. Current version is 63.0.3, but I've tried to use Cryptpad many time on previous versions, no joy. I also have #uBlockOrigin and #NoScript installed, but I've tried disabling them both when looking at Cryptpads, no luck.
Balance of the week so far: converted a notebook and a desktop of one of my coworker from #Win10 to #Ubuntu. Maybe not the best distro IMHO, but for a newbie is ok! π Just a couple of issues with a scanner and a wifi adapter but i'm looking into them.
@clacke yeah I figured it was probably the extra checking that needs to be done. Updates ship to #Trisquel slower than #Ubuntu because of the extra checking that's done to ensure no non-free code or dependencies are added by the updates.
I want to thank everybody who helps keep #UbuntuTouch alive over at @Ubports. Too many names to mention, but you all know who you are. Thank you thank you thank you for being on this awesome journey with us!
I got two #laptops here, one with Core i5 the other with i7. Everything else is exactly the same. Compontents, revisions, BIOS... Booting current #Ubuntu, #openSUSE and #Fedora versions leaves me with completely broken network on the i5 machin as it can't get a #DHCP lease. No ethernet, no wifi, no usb-to-LAN - nothing. The i7 powered laptop works disregarding which OS and distribution.
On the other hand Gentoo-based "SysRescueDisc" and Win10 both run flawless on both machines.
#introductions Hello everyone. I've been an #Ubuntu user and #freesoftware enthusiast for nearly ten years. I don't work in tech so unfortunately I have no real life friends who share my interest in #foss.
I'm currently trying to get better at #Python and #pandas as I transition away from using Excel/VBA for data analysis at work.
Starting today, an optimised #Ubuntu desktop image for Microsoft Hyper-V is available! On Windows 10 Pro you can pick Ubuntu 18.04.1 from the Hyper-V Gallery! π§ π π
@Asidis#LMDE is a rolling released based on #DebianTesting, so it's constantly updated. Correct me if I'm wrong (anyone who knows) but my understanding is the numbered releases like this one only come out when there is a new release of #DebianStable. As it says in that blog piece, if #Ubuntu ever got canned, or went totally evil (instead of just casually disrespectful to its users), all Mint distros would switch to a Debian base.
@alcinnz AppStream? Good question, no idea. Trisquel is based off #Ubuntu, and has everything Ubuntu has minus the non-free stuff, and with #Mate instead of #Unity/ #GNOME. I'm still using Trisquel 7, which was based off 14.04, but most folks are already on 8, based off 16.04. The devs are now working on 8, which will be based off 18.04, so that would be the release to target for possible inclusion (at least in the repo).
Tomorrow, August 26th, at 1900 UTC, Ubuntu Touch OTA-4 will be released.
This release features Ubuntu 16.04 as its base (previously 15.04), bringing security fixes and stability improvements. It also includes new features that will excite new and existing users!
