I'm moving my "main" to a new instance. This account will still exist, and I'll probably still post here from time-to-time, but I've imported my following (and blocked) lists to coales.co, so if you get a notification that @ink_slinger is now following you...it's me. And that will most likely be my new main account.
@ThatGeoGuy@thurloat Agreed. The questions are set up as binary options, which I guess is somewhat necessary for the quiz to work, but it losses a lot of nuance as a result. I'm sure I selected "unsure/no opinion" for more than half the questions, though there were certainly a few where I had a strong opinion one way or the other.
@thurloat Yeah, Grindr stood out to me, as well. Noticeably absent is the ciset equivalent (Tinder). 🤔
Although, they did include Bumble, which I'd actually assume would be among the "safer" dating apps, since women need to make the first move so it's harder for teenage boys to be creeps right off the bat.
Looking at the breakdown, it's sort of funny because it basically says I'm a demsoc who is skeptical about the ability to change via liberal democratic institutions and therefore, because I can at least see the value in revolution, I'm a "Marxist centrist" (a term I had literally never heard of before taking this quiz).
Just noticed that I hadn't closed the tab with my "full" results last night, so in case anyone cares about how the site defines the different varieties of leftism -- and how much I "match" with each one -- here are the deets.
@keithzg OK, that would be great. Instead, it's used for making payments with Apple/Android Pay and...transferring files to a new phone when you first setup a new Android device, provided that both the new and old phones both have NFC.
@keithzg I've literally never used Google Pay, so this is not a huge issue for me, but I understand it's a make-or-break for some people (who will similarly not buy a phone without NFC, whereas I find that feature a nice-to-have-but-mostly-unnecessary thing).
@thurloat Most of the actual moving of money is handled behind the scenes, once you sign all the consent forms. But switching auto-payments to new accounts is a pain. I've done it once, because I switched to my wife's bank after we got married. Doing it again is a mild inconvenience, but not enough to stop us. We've just been lazy and procrastinating.
@deejoe@thurloat I recently learned that Servus (the main/biggest credit union here) is open on Saturdays, so I wouldn't even have to go through the trouble of taking time off work and coordinating with my wife's work schedule, etc. It's literally just a matter of picking up the phone. I have no idea we haven't done it yet, other than inertia.
@masterofthetiger It's pretty focused on socialism, but there are questions later on that look at environmental and social issues (though, mostly within a socialist context).
@masterofthetiger I guess it depends on your definition, but "the left" is usually anything to the left of social democrats (and may or may not include socdems, depending on one's perspective).
