with @cwebber's datashards proposal, it's possible. we plan to implement datashards in Pleroma 2.0 to accomplish this. -

@hj @rin normies actually want both. the porn guys did commission usability studies on Pleroma FE. those mockups didn't come out of nowhere. -

what i do know is that pleroma.site should not be murdering a postgres xl cluster made entirely with nvme storage, but it is, even with preloads disabled. -

@rin @hj
i'm not confident they are really effective (this is the problem with load spikes).
what brought load averages down for me in a reasonably stable way was disabling the preloads. -

@rin @hj
i've exhausted what i can do to debug them.
we need someone with postgres expertise to figure this mess out.
yes, joins are expensive, but i think the queries are badly composed.
since you have some contact with the porn guys, maybe you can ask their DBA to investigate it -

(seriously we need to resolve these postgres spikes, they got worse with the introduction of these preloads) -

not to mention that as i said earlier, i'm presently *holding* the 1.1 branch because i think develop is not in a competent state. -

@hj @rin
in BE, we let feature branches cook for some time and backport the ones which are known to be good to the next stable release. and then, occasionally, when a good opportunity presents itself to do so, we cut a new starting point, such as the 1.1 branch that we are talking about for a while now.
incidentally, i am presently *holding* the 1.1 branch because i am not confident in the current state of develop, which is probably a good thing for develop, because things that i know are going to induce breakage (like Oban) are being kept out of the tree until 1.1 is branched.
so, no, i think things are being tested. -

@hj @rin
develop is increasingly not the majority of the network, and many of the develop installs are also quite old anyway.
a development branch of FE which does not target the current APIs provided by the platform is effectively useless for testing.
incidentally, tantrums like these are a real pain in my ass, i have you screaming, i have the porn guys screaming, and now the porn guys pay lain (presumably, to do what they want). -
