that actually has little to do with it. it is primarily that I am bored with the domain.
it is not a "cool" sounding domain, but instead very generic. very corporate. I would like to phase it out with something more creative and reflective of what we have actually built here (although I recognize that changing the domain does basically represent a reboot)
@sim well, for example, i used to work for a startup that worked in adtech. the CEO loved going to strip clubs. that always made me somewhat uncomfortable, as i feel that is inappropriate for a team to be doing together in a business setting.
also, on the way out the door, he noted that he had also been banned from shitposter.club, so presumably he was one of the gablins who joined SPC this time last year.
well, i mean, half of his posts were rants about an alleged global zionist conspiracy, and the other posts were about white pride, in an unironic 1488 kind of way.
so, i would have to say the person in question was a neo-nazi
in transparency, i will say that we did have one incident where an actual literal nazi (who certainly had some theories on "the jews") did sign up on this instance, but we banned him immediately upon becoming aware of his account. his account was live for less than 24 hours (i think it was around 3 or 4 hours) before he got the boot.
so, i mean, i think that is a pretty reasonable response and response time...
@gcb however, i think our current operating theory is that they saw a screenshot of some shitty person's pleroma instance (alas, there is no test of turpitude when installing the software) and then this person looked up pleroma and saw our instance and assumed that shitty person was using our instance or something.
@gcb i saw that post earlier today, but i must confess, i am not really up to speed with what is going on at stack overflow, as i don't really ever read or post there.
the other thing to realize is that we ban a lot of people who, from what we can tell, are largely performative concern trolls (of various flavors)
we try to not banhammer people who are authentically advocating for things, but we do ban people who, from what we can tell, spend 90% of their energy on telling other people what to do and how to live their life in an aggressive way. whether or not that behaviour is caused by conscious concern trolling or some sort of mental health issue, i don't know, but we do ban that type of behaviour for the mental health of our own local users.
this moderation policy might be a little surprising to someone from another instance, but it keeps our space more comfortable...
