"Tor is best known for being used by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden but, with governments across the world cracking down on the internet, it is a resource that’s increasingly necessary if we are to guard the world’s right to a free internet." https://techcrunch.com/2019/01/11/tor-lessens-reliance-us-grants/
One of Tor's config options is called "FascistFirewall", which when set only creates outgoing connections through the already open 80 and 443 ports. Perfect way to connect when using the guest wifi in my heavily restricted office.
Also confirms that corporations are fascist, pass it on ;)
I finally got a hold of all my families old camcorder tapes as I've been meaning to ask for them for years to digitally transfer them before they degrade.
At the 2003 Halloween tape, a comment my dad had made to my grandmother definitely hit hard. She hated being filmed, and he was joking with her that in 20 years she'll want to see what happened then and how she looked. She passed away just over 12 years later. Fuck cancer.
I didn't think I'd like it much, but this winter-y "holiday" black tea is really, really good. I'm not usually a fan of extra flavors in my tea, but it's a good morning cup for sure. Perfect to have while looking over what systems I can code for :python:
Hopefully with the fediverse making a name for itself, along with other non-corporate projects, the mainstream can start to slowly move away from behemoths and realize the benefits to decentralization and self-hosting. Or at least towards the importance of privacy in the digital age.
It's been a busy past few months, so hello again, Fediverse!
I did finally figure out though the issue I've been having with my home server. After reboots it'd be unable to connect to the network despite finding no issues with the SD card. Finally realized that the lack of logs meant that the boot process never completes. The issue? Lines in fstab for HDDs that weren't connected. Removed them and no more issues!
Been trying out the Pulse keycaps that finally arrived this past weekend. I was so used to XDA and DSA profiles that SA is kinda awkward to use. Doesn't help that I didn't opt for the actual ortholinear modifiers (because I wanted symbols to go along with the rams) so the lower row isn't flatter like they should be.
