It's also pervasive surveillance for the customers. You can't casually stroll down a shopping aisle or window shop without that creepy feeling that every one of your moves is being watched and recorded. -

The author was the Director of RAW, and even he's opposed to Aadhaar... -

IISc has now put out a web form to submit Aadhaar numbers. I still don't want to submit, of course. I haven't even enrolled for that diabolical surveillance system. But, most others have enrolled already, and may be happy to submit their Aadhaar numbers. I will continue to resist, as I have for the last few years... -

The movie "The Man from Earth: Holocene", a sequel to "The Man from Earth", came out last week. I highly recommend the movie, if you haven't watched it already. The creators have themselves uploaded the movie as a torrent to the Pirate Bay. They are open for donations on their website. Do support them if able.
Here is the magnet link to the 720p version of the movie.

Higher resolutions are also available on the Pirate Bay. -

Learning to write #Guix services, at last... My first Guix service will be a service for the Battle for Wesnoth daemon. Maybe a little premature, but I already feel all my system administrator woes melting away! -

The govt is only just framing a data protection policy. But, the policy is weak and full of loopholes (for the interests of the state, businesses, etc.). And, there is no provision to enforce such a data protection policy. There is no reliable means for citizens to complain and have their grievances addressed. In other words, the whole thing is a farce. -

Yes, I was thinking if we can at least defeat the automated surveillance. Automated surveillance by machines is what makes surveillance so inexpensive. -

Wow, I never thought about it from this perspective! Very interesting... -

When some students complained to the administration asking for a secure web portal, they said "we will consider your request". But, the spreadsheet still hasn't been taken down. These bureaucrats are such morons. -

IISc is asking students' for Aadhaar again. This time, it is for NAD (National Academic Depository) registration. Guess what, they have shared a public spreadsheet with 4000 students' details (name, dept, gender, caste/category, etc.), with a blank column for Aadhaar. They expect people to enter their Aadhaar IDs in this public spreadsheet! Such is the deplorable state of !india 's premier research institute. -

Maybe a technique such as this could be used to defeat pervasive CCTV surveillance instead of all the makeup that people commonly resort to. -

May I draw your attention to this hilarious example of fooling an image recognition algorithm with a small patch of carefully engineered noise?

authinfo is GPG encrypted. And, I'm hoping emacs handles authinfo secrets with care in memory.
