@annagerber At the last place I worked people would sometimes wear all kinds of attire. One guy had an incredibly tall wizard hat which wouldn't go through doorways.
@horst @sireebob @uranther I think NextCloud has some webRTC videoconferencing thing, although I've never tried it. RiotWeb also has something similar.
Also, how much unnecessary data gets sent just so companies know what unnecessary ads to serve you. Adblockers and antitracking software as environmentalism.
"The trepidation is unlikely to end anytime soon. By next year, automation will put nearly 70% of the roles in the Indian IT workforce at risk, according to analysts."
Some instances may adopt bizarre policies, but so long as they're not bothering you or anyone else I think they should just be left to it. There isn't really a reason to block them unless they're causing aggravation or hosting illegal stuff.
I expect the fediverse will continue to get more popular in 2018, and I also expect that some instances will try to add advertising or sponsorship, just because that's conventional (maybe some are doing this already). If that happens then so long as spam isn't getting into my timeline I won't need to block them.
Fun Fact: the term for the bit and bobs often seen on sci-fi spacecraft is "greeble".
From Wikipedia: "A greeble or nurnie is a fine detailing added to the surface of a larger object that makes it appear more complex, and therefore more visually interesting. It usually gives the audience an impression of increased scale." https://goo.gl/E2v17p
@horst @sireebob @uranther It's a bit like the relationship between XMPP and Conversations. Tox is the underlying communication system. qTox is a Qt GUI which uses it.
