@hcs it's my been experience that for aligned incentive to deliver excellence, you hire full-time directly into the company. Avoid consultants, saas, etc.

Consultants in general have these sorts of issues; outsourcing makes it worse, language/cultural barriers make it even worse.

If Boeing had chosen to have a site in India, moved their lead engineers there, and paid top flight/benefits- no outsourcing, no consultants, shared language- then the issues would largely not exist outside of the usual management pressure to cut costs and timelines.

@enkiv2 My strong impression is that all the protest art, etc is seen as an immature joke by those that disagree. The only thing that seems to be effective is narrative from a trusted source.

I deeply wonder whether art changes anyone's mind or heart; I have the notion its more of a reinforcer/agitator for those that agree.

@jhaye my review of this issue over time suggests that a major part of the solution is probably to have a centralized server with no relaying/forwarding of statuses.

firewalls and domain futzing are not going to be reasonably defeatable given a resourceful adversary purpose designing for disruption.

@natecull actually, gelatin salads started in the ~1910s involving clear gelatin and color aligned food bits inside. The best book I've read on it is Perfection Salad. (I went on a food history binge last year)

Reading through Susannah Heschel's Aryan Jesus- it's about the efforts of Nazis to Nazify the Protestant church in the Third Reich.

This topic is, to date, the hardest thing I've ever studied, in terms of personal horror of the subject.

I guess I think about that as one pole of the debate (I shudder to think of what a die hard Ayn Rand person would sound like), which might explain why so many people think of FLOSS qua MIT as radical: it trips cold war anticommunist mind-mines?

@melissasage when I explain FLOSS to an Elderly Male Relative I like trip a Cold War mind-bomb and he gets hysterical about socialism and how FLOSS is the destruction of private property and how I am advocating for FULL MARXIST LENINIST COMMUNISM.

@liaizon The vast amount of Gen X and beyond has no meaning generating framework to build broad theories of Why Bother and How To Exist As Society (pomo is epistemtic acid). I'm hopeful the broader socialist project will address that. Until then... it's catch as catch can.

It smelled ok and tasted good. I figure if I don't have Issues by Sunday night that I escaped unharmed.

But it reminds me to not delay in preparing meat I have in the fridge!
