This might be a long shot, but...

Does anyone know if there is *any* extant scholarship on:

a) the possibility that Christian 'virtuous poverty' ideals were a reaction to the Roman Empire?

b) the relationship of the post-Reformation 'rehabilitation' of avarice/greed/self-interest/whatever to the late 900s/early 1000s and how the world didn't end and people wanted nice stuff again?

(Terrible topic summaries, but character limit.)

I'm writing a paper and find myself trying to explain awarding $10 million to the company that can best improve basic literacy among poor Tanzanian kids using tablets is not a good thing.

Struggling more than I should be. Wondering if anyone can share any links/ references to writing (preferably academic, but not fussy) about risks of behavioural, neoliberal, colonial approaches to education/ technology (beyond Audrey Watters)?

Maybe my brain is just broken, but any help is appreciated.

You may not be engaging in dialogue or “debate” so much as playing into their performance

I don’t yet know of an effective strategy to combat this besides early detection. But if you’re in a heated argument, that can be difficult

Reminded yet again that people tend to think a technology is simple because they currently have libraries in their preferred language that they like using, rather than because the underlying technology is actually simple to use or well thought out
