@raucao did it actually though? Or was eugenics more like climate change denial. An ideology mobilized (then and now) by threats to powerful interests, whose adherents claim an evidence base that clearly never existed, if you actually check their purported sources.
@chebra methane averages about 60-70% of the energy density of mined natural gas: > The Gas Council Laboratory ... study on methane and natural gas ... found that a pure methane sample tested at 678 BTUs while the natural gas sample provided a BTU value of about 1,000. https://sciencing.com/methane-gas-vs-natural-gas-13638389.html
@chebra hmm. Leakage wasn't mentioned in the podcast, they may or may not have come up with a material that prevents that. But assuming they haven't, does the rate of loss bring its net energy down below that of methane over the average time it takes to use the same size bottle of each?
@orbifx sure, but something that doesn't get waterlogged is poor habitat for fungi or microbes. So AFAIK being water-soluble is necessary but not sufficient. Being in the ground helps not because (alive) soil is full of biota, but because it helps stuff get water-logged. There are plenty of airborne decomposers too, as can be seen in a dirty fridge ;)p @adrint@fitheach@feonixrift
@bikecurious that's a good point. I think the folks behind @write_as are setting up other services for photo-sharing etc, maybe they have something specifically for podcasts?
@chebra > Hydrogen is notoriously difficult to contain
The idea that it's any more dangerous than any other conbustible gas is mainly cultural trauma going back to the Hindenburg. In the podcast they talk about containment, it's a solved problem. Another advantage of hydrogen over methane is it's much more energy dense per volume/ weight. So it's a better fuel for heavy vehicles.
@jash Here's my problem with this. All a fascist would have to do is print a bunch of Star of David stickers the same size as the Nazi logo, and the word "ZIONISM" the same size, colour, and font as where it says "FASCISM", and they could transform these into pro-fascist posters. The design is generic demonization (rooted in a biblical anti-snake smear), nothing in it is specific to what's bad about fascism.
I need to set up a website for a #comedy podcast I'm doing with an old friend and collaborator. I'm thinking of just using an off-the-shelf service like #Wordpress.com or #Squarespace, to keep it simple. But if there's a #cooperative doing something like this, using only #FreeCode software, at a similar price, I'd rather support them than lease a #VPS and spend hours doing my own sysadmin.
@adrint yup. Since there's no formal definition of "organic", the only way to know if that claim on a product is meaningful is to either inspect the farm, or look for the trademark of a trustworthy certification organisation. The #NZ government has created a system for investigating environmental and other social benefit claims made by vendors. This includes certifying certifiers. @fitheach@orbifx@feonixrift
If you run your own #Nextcloud server, answer this:
Do you have a distributed, #encrypted, automatic, offsite, free #backup solution?
How amazing would it be to install a Nextcloud app and automatically have all your data encrypted, backed up around the world, on other Nextcloud installs rather than some mega-corp, for no cost beyond sharing some of your unused storage space?
I'm increasingly feeling like #Disintermedia is being left behind. It might be time to fold it as an attempt at an independent entity. If I'm going to continue with it, even just as a blog, I need to think about either moving to a mobile-friendly host, or going into self-hosting.
The debate about apps blocking their users from using them with particular servers is really about #NetNeutrality. The principle here is that software makers and network operators don't make decisions for users about who and what to connect with. This principle is most important to those with the least social power. If domains can be blocked in one app for being "fascists", it sets a precedent for other apps to block domains for being anarchists, or blacks, or queers etc.
@fitheach I've been out-pedanted! The shame! ;P I guess the "Tetra Brick" is the one I'm thinking of. The one plant milks always come in, more's the pity. @feonixrift@orbifx
