Anything I do always ends up with one foot in the blues. Just the way I am I guess.

And for those who say they are sick of the blues, they're not listening to it played properly

7 notes in the scale gives 3 major 3 minor chords and the one diminished with a m3 b5

So working out a song, you can derive the mode, and easily pick the chords you can use when writing as you know what the rules are....and how to break them

@YoVinnie so when I play, and improvise I will think, I want this to feel a bit ... and I kind of instinctively play those notes, without thinking. I can then, after the fact go through the rationalisation and work out what I played, and why it worked...or didn't.

It also makes it hard for me to read tabs as I see a number say 9 on the B string and my brain goes "noooo that's a maj 3rd of E"

@YoVinnie when I started on guitar properly back nearly 7 years ago, I taught myself to associate numbers against the root note having a certain tonality, and generating a certain emotion. This is what a jazz guy suggested to me years ago. He said "think numbers, then no matter what key you're playing, or what you're playing, you'll be able to play it"

So I have these ideas in my head about the relationship between notes over the root, like a minor 3rd or a major 7 have "that sound"
