@zephasaurus_hex If you're reading 50 a year (I am too), you shouldn't really worry I guess unless you want to push it into superreader territory (100+ books per year).

I would say get more books and read more books at the same time and abandon more of them as well.

Mentally I compare friends who go work at the MAFANGs with people who back in the day would enroll with the VOC.

Why would a young enterprising soul care much about the consequences of their actions as long as they can get some while the getting is good? (And the risk of getting stabbed to death during an uprising in Aceh is a lot lower which definitely adds to the appeal.)

@Elmkast Just to add to that, for instance here in Berlin traffic German people will not swear because:
    1. They might actually face criminal charges.
    2. Actual swearing (beyond 'Penner') would demean them and make them look like an uncivilized person.

@Elmkast It's decidedly uncivilized and low culture which is a harder division in this country than elsewhere.

@Elmkast The most innovation as everywhere happens in urban music which in German society has a very uncomfortable place.

Let's say (some of it not even contemporary anymore):
    - Peter Fox
    - K.I.Z.
    - Wir Sind Helden
    - Rotfront

    DJs: DJ Koze, Moderat

Kraken CEO Says SF Is Overrun With “Crack Zombies” Who Are “Effectively Wild Animals”
      By Julia Herbst from BREAKER
Earlier this week Jesse Powell, CEO and co-founder of massive digital assets exchange Kraken, took to Twitter to complain about living in San Francisco. The theory itself—that workers would soon leave the Bay Area for places with a better quality of life—wasn’t unusual. It was the tweet's rhetoric that was striking: Powell claimed that two of Kraken’s employees had been attacked by “crack zombies” and that “you can pay $3k/sqft for a condo but can't stop people from literally shitting on your door.”

I now have one that is decent called “The Guilty Feminist”.

@Elmkast I usually graph out the pages I've read per month and make a list of books with the ones I would recommend in bold.

Same here: “Every Kim Stanley Robinson book I have read has radicalized me in one way or another, about the environment or the movement of global capital or the power of collective action. That’s on purpose.”

Kim Stanley Robinson's writing may feel old-school, but it's distinctly calibrated to make change happen now—so the future in his books doesn't come true.

@Elmkast It's easy to fall into the posting trap. The best inoculation against it is to go out and do some direct action/community service/whatever.
