The world is a better place because people who don't know how to write computer programs and would struggle to learn if they tried are able to do things on computers anyway.
Interactive fiction is better because Twine meant that non-programmers could make text-based story games.
Electronic music is better because DAWs and synths and MIDI mean that non-electrical engineers can design sounds and build them into full tracks.
The visual arts are better because graphics software and tablets mean that non-chemists can produce images without manufacturing their own inks and paints.
Members of the free-and-open-source software community have a lot to say about allowing people to write their own software for their own purposes, but the world we live in is better for the ways in which it empowers people who can't.
