Curious fact: "Jupiter" (the god and the planet) comes from a combination of 2 indoeurpean words: "Djëus/Djòs" -which Latin "deus" (generic god) also derives from- meaning "sky/lightning", and "Phter", meaning "Father". Check out corresponding chief gods in other indoeuropean languages:

Greek: Zeus Patér
Sanskrit: Dyáuṣ Pitṛ́
Persian: Daeva Pitr
Celtic: Dēuos Athir

If you need high performance and scalability, a stable and featured native ZFS basis, a powerful network stack with Virtual NIC Bandwidth management, and flow control, specialized containers (Solaris branded zones), a parallel init which doesn't suck (SMF) coupled with native diagnosting/sandboxing/debugging (DTrace, RBAC, FMA...) userland utils, KVM/bhyve hypervisors, a POSIX/SUS compliant env, Illumos is the right place to look at

XStreamOS and OmniOSce are better suited for storage, database, NFS, web servers, containers, network appliances; SmartOS (the most innovative and best maintained distro) for cloud, containers, virtualization, sandboxing; Nexentastor for NFS/SMB, database, ultra performance and scalability, host hypervisors; Delphix for cloud, virtualization, performance on web servers.

@neb OpenIndiana is Illumos XD. Think of OpenIndiana as TrueOS and Illumos as FreeBSD. Illumos is never distributed alone, rather it exists under the disguise of distributions. All distro upstream to the central Illumos-gate development branch. OpenIndiana is targeted to professional workstation, the way OpenSolaris used to be,but can be used as desktop/server too. Tribblix is the most desktop-focused distro, with DilOS, OpenIndian and XStreamOS representing great alternatives

That's it; new Nokia 3310 2G. Goodbye smartphone, Android, What's App; for me, who felt slowly becoming addicted to it, year after year, it's a relief. A small step towards emancipation from mental slavery.
