people who dismiss concerns as 'just being offended' seem to have never been in a situation where there is anything worse for them than the mild discomfort that being offended brings them, and since that is the worst they have experienced no one else could possibly have experienced something worse.
Do not underestimate the value of 'soft' skills! Even in groups that do tech work like software development having people whose primary skills have nothing to do with software is important. One hacker space I went to for a bit was mostly held together by a kid who came in and didn't know anything about what people were doing, they just liked to sit there and watch and talk to people as they worked. Without them I think that the space would have fallen apart.
I am ridiculously happy because we designed and built almost every component of it from local hardware stores for much cheaper than buying a kit online would have been. But we do have a CNC machine we used to cut out some pieces so that may be cheating.
This is the first thing we have successfully cut out using the laser cutter.
@JordiGH facebook did a huge push where they lied about video stats on their site and convinced everyone that video is the only thing that mattered online, so many places started getting rid of writers in favour of video people and when it wasn't working because it was all based on a lie the sunk cost fallacy made them push harder for video.
"I'm not a harasser, it must be one of the women we commonly harass that is doing it" isn't a good look for anyone. Particularly not an instance admin.
This weeks 360 robots eye video is crossing Pont de l'Alma here in Paris. It gives a nice view of the Eiffel tower and the late afternoon sun on the Seine. We are back to our study of the bridges of Paris. You can also see the Cathédrale de la Sainte-Trinité (Holy Trinity Cathedral) in all of it's gold domed shininess. Enjoy!
This weeks 360 video is once again robbie driving along Les Berges de Seine, but this time not through a crowd. There is a big ranibow-y thing painted on the ground for pride that is neat to see in 360, but it is a much more relaxed video than last weeks was. And as a bonus there is some live saxophone music near the end of the ride.
I think it is very important to remember that just because one thing went well (article 11 and 13) doesn't mean that the good guys have won. It just means that we have some more time to put together robust distributed alternatives to everything before the current iteration of the internet is no longer usable outside of google/facebook/amazon.
It means we have to work harder to make sure that when people trying to take this away succeed they can't take everything.
