    @Gargron Are you all that surprised? She, like so many politicians, tend to keep their blinders on. We as a populace have accused them so many times of "backpeddling" (as if somehow changing your mind is a bad thing) that all politicians now just have blinders on and stay the course.

    Its a problem in this case, but its a problem more generally too.

    My #phylogenetics professor wants us to work with BioEdit. This program is:

    * #proprietarysoftware, even though free (as in free beer)
    * Only works with Windows, can't even manage to install it on VM with Wine.
    * **is unmaintained since 2009**.

    Please #FOSS and #science community, help me find something I can work it that doesn't feel like wearing a shoe filled with beans, or at least install this thing... seems like winxp is slow up to uselessness in VM for some reason.

    @lastfuture They won me over the second i saw it uses python. My issue with all calculators ive tried is that they fail to do sane simplification. I always keep coming back to matlab/maple even though i prefer to do math on paper w/ a calculator.
