The intent was always to support federation, and there is some very basic event federation already using simple JSON feeds.

Fully ActivityPub support (needed to interoperate with Mastodon) is more complicated, and while the data export is working, we need contributors to help with the pub/sub part of the protocol.

@Zuph @wakest @socalledunitedstates You can create an event without a team/group, in that case it will be listed as "Hosted by" you as an individual.

@lufthans It looks like Google Places is served from maps.googleapis.com

Many have requested OSM, but nobody's volunteered to add it yet.

@deejoe @jd We are working on adding a feature for private groups and events, it should be there after the new year.

@lufthans IIRC, it's the Google Places API that brings in the venue name and other information.

Now you can create new teams under your org with the green "Add Team" button, of invite existing teams to join by going to that team's page and clicing the "Invite to Organization" button at the top of their page.

@druonysus Not yet, I'm still unsure how to implement that in a way that doesn't result in an explosion of single-team orgs. For now I'm creating them by request. What would you like the name of the org to be?

@joreg They're very different formats. Your rss reader might be able to also read ical, but the formats themselves are not compatible.

I'm open to adding an RSS feed if somebody submits a patch or there's enough demand from users for me to add one

@joreg You can get an ical feed of a team's events. On the team page, next to the header "Upcoming events" there's a calendar icon that links to the feed.

@arnaudj @switchingsocial We have ActivityStream compliant feeds for events, places and teams, we're just missing the ActivityPub bits to allow federating using the standard protocol.

FWIW, I'm planning on making the core "events" django app a standalone python package, so adding ActivityPub support there would help even more projects than just us.

@MacLemon Hi there! I envisioned two primary use cases:

1) A hosted service used by multiple communities (https://gettogether.community is this)

2) Self-hosted instances per-community that wants more control over settings and data

It doesn't make much sense to host an instance per-team or per-location, just because of the cost of hosting. Municipal instances are an interesting idea that I hadn't considered before.
