@lufthans @druonysus Not me, though I've wanted to go to SeaGL for years now. If it wasn't on the literal opposite corner of the country :(

BAMF (Bay Area Members of the Fediverse) now has a dedicated team page on #GetTogether: https://gettogether.community/bamf-bay-area-members-of-the-fediverse/

It looks like GetTogether is working towards implementing ActivityPub, which could make it a great meetup app for the fediverse.

@druonysus There's not a public way to create an org yet. I'm not sure how I want to handle this, but I want to avoid a bunch of orgs being created with just one team.

@lufthans Your issue should be fixed now, it'll fall back to the Place's city for latlng coordinates when you don't specify them or pick a place on the map

@druonysus The other OpenSUSE team is in Jakarta, Indonesia (and coincidentally run by a friend of mine)

@druonysus When you create an event for your org, it can be global or location-specific. In either case it will email the admins of all of your member teams in that geographic scope to invite them to create an event for their team that will be part of your org event.

@druonysus I've created an OpenSUSE org and made you the owner of it.

    https://gettogether.community/org/opensuse/

Now any team page you view will have an "Invite to Organization" button at the top of the page, that will send the invite to the team's admins. If they accept, they'll be part of your org.

You can also create new teams for your org from the org's page, and any team admin who views your org page will see a "Join Organization" button that will send you a request to add them.

@lufthans Yeah, you probably didn't even see the map then. No worries, you found a tricky bug, but one that should be easy enough to fix.

@lufthans If you click on the location on the map, it should auto-fill the coordinates based on Google's data. But it should still default to the City's location, not the team's, when a City is given.

For now I've changed your event to use the right coordinates for Seattle, so it'll show up in a search

@lufthans Ah ha, I see the bug! When you selected a Place for your event, it didn't have lat/lng coordinates, and the event defaults to using the team's coordinates (Phoenix in your case) rather than the coordinates of the City listed in the Place.

@druonysus BTW, did you know we can group teams under a common "organization" like how Meetup Pro works? Here's one we setup for GNOME: https://gettogether.community/org/gnome/

Since there are already two OpenSUSE teams in GetTogether.Community, we can make create and org for them too if there's interest.

Orgs let you collaborate on multi-team events like release-parties or hackathons

@druonysus I don't see OSEM and GetTogether as competing, we serve very different use cases. We wouldn't be good for conference schedules, and OSEM isn't good for weekly meetups.

@lufthans No, but if it can't find any teams or events within the specific distance of your location it will return only the 3 closest ones

@druonysus Yep, I even played with it a bit setting up #LASGNOME which uses it. It seems to be the most polished and functional FOSS option for conference-style events
