I'm almost halfway to being able to afford a pair of glasses before I go back to school! Even if I don't meet the goal, the closer I get the less I'll have to save up on my own, so every bit is helpful. I'm already going to be able to afford them sooner than I would have been able to yesterday.

So the other day my coworker came up to me wearing their boyfriend's glasses, and I asked to try them on for fun. They let me and when I put them on everything looked so clear! They wouldn't let me keep the glasses (obviously) so I need to buy my own pair. I'd like to get them before school starts. My half of an art trade with @Vann of her #OriginalCharacter Patty! This one forced me out of my comfort zone a bit, mainly in that I don't really have a great understanding of lighting, so I was winging it. Drawing hands is very much a struggle for me as well, and I'm still not used to drawing animals, or in this case animal-adjacent beings. There's also some parts I'm pretty proud of too. Her face looks nice, and I'm happy with the texture of her hair and clothes.

Curator just made a thread about this so I'm posting this Unlisted for now, but I did some quick maths. Hosting Mastodon.ART costs €65/month. That's about $80 USD. So if 80 people donated $1 USD/month to the Mastodon.ART Patreon or Liberapay, hosting would be free. Mastodon.ART has ~2.3k active users (1.5k joined in the past week!). So it would only take 0.03% of our active users donating $1 to make ART completely sustainable. Even before the new users, we'd only need donations from 1% of users.

Little reminder for people who are worried about forgetting to caption their images that you can follow @PleaseCaption and it will politely remind you in DMs if you forget! You can then Delete & Redraft the post to add your image description!

Remember to space out your art posts so you're not flooding the local timeline! And also remember to use hashtags to make your posts easy to find! If you don't know what hashtag to put, #MastoArt is the general one that a lot of people follow.

Another PSA for new Mastodon.ART users! Yes, this is a server for artists, and a great place to share your art (be it visual, music, gamedev, etc.), but you're also allowed to post personal thoughts and non-art-related things! If you don't want to put that stuff on the public timelines, you can make those toots Unlisted or Followers-only, so that everyone following you sees it but it's not broadcast to the entire server and beyond. Many of us here post a lot of non-art stuff for our followers.

Little PSA for the new people on Mastodon.ART who have joined from other social media: The "report" button actually works here! If you report someone, the admin and moderators will be emailed and we'll take care of it! We care about maintaining a safe and inclusive environment here. No bigotry or harassment allowed! Please report anyone who is behaving in a way that breaks our rules. And remember that you can mute or block anything or anyone you don't want to see even if rules aren't broken.
