I read James SA Corey's new short story How It Unfolds yesterday. It's a very quick read with some interesting (though not fully developed) ideas about future space travel/colonization. It reminded me vaguely of a much more condensed (and less trashy) version of Dennis Taylor's We Are Legion (We Are Bob), at least as it applies to the idea of humanity technologically replicating itself across the galaxy.

While I enjoyed the single-serving story, I know Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham had mentioned their plans to work on a new non-Expanse-related scifi project. I hope this isn't what they were talking about, because I want a lot more.

I’ve been getting more into the game Gaslands with my son and also with adult friends. It’s a Mad Max-esque tabletop game where you’re expected to create your own game pieces by kitbashing with toy cars. I already have all the crafting, painting and 3d printing supplies I need from my other wargaming hobbies, so the barrier to entry was incredibly low. It’s a lot of lighthearted fun. Here is my latest creation.

We picked up our new puppy today. His name is Rune. The rescue had listed his mother as Staffordshire Terrier and his father as "unknown", but it turns out it's Great Pyrenees. We may have to start a GoFundMe to afford dog food 😅

The Youtube channel #RedLetterMedia recently did a video about scams around creating a phony speculation market around old VHS cassettes, and as a stunt/joke/commentary they put a copy of an old 80s B-movie "Nukie" up for sale on eBay with the proceeds going to charity. To make their copy even more "rare" they also destroyed 105 additional copies of the movie in a wood chipper.

As of this writing it's currently over $75,000 USD with 6 days of bidding left.
