A few years ago the local power company subsidized CFL bulbs in a push to phase out incandescent. They paid $2 per CFL bulb at the register.

Then the local hardware chain had a flash sale on CFLs for $1.99/bulb. So I bought 100 CFL bulbs and a $1.25 candy bar for a quarter.
