Effects have been observed in humans in response to stimulation of the skin with electromagnetic fields pulsed with frequencies near ½ Hz or 2.4 Hz. Many computer monitors, when displaying pulsed images, emit pulsed electromagnetic fields of sufficient amplitudes to cause such excitation. It is therefore possible to manipulate the nervous system of a subject by pulsing images displayed on a monitor.
"[I]t emerged that they [Facebook researchers] had been conducting secret research on more than 6.4 million Australian youth as young as 14 years old to determine when they were at their most vulnerable, experiencing feelings of being “worthless” or a “failure” in order to better target them for advertisers"
#Mastodon / #Fediverse Feature Request: could we have accounts that manage other accounts? Like an org account that is managed by personal accounts of people working in the org?
That would make management of org accounts so much easier.
Dear #Mastodon#Fediverse, anyody has a Linux box in Belarus? We are informed that a certain website is being blocked there and we want to investigate how.
@silverwizard there are projects (Monero comes to mind) that will have cash-like properties like untrackability, but the issue is that large amounts of cash (say, 20mln USD) are hard to move around. That puts a cap on how much money you can launder/move illegally with cash.
There is no such limit in Monero et al, and that -- I feel -- tips the balance in favour of bad actors (who now either have to risk moving wads of cash, or going through the banking system and leaving traces).
@silverwizard let me pour some gasoline: so-called "privacy" coins will only or mainly be useful for bad actors (enabling much easier money laundering of huge sums), while the general public will neither have interest in them, nor going to be using them in any way.
The net outcome for personal freedoms and well-being (both on a personal and societal level) of so called "privacy coins" as they are currently being designed will be unambiguously negative.
@grmpyoldman@nextcloud@bes ah, since there's already chance somebody from Nextcloud will read this... for the record, I love Nextcloud to bits and I do believe it's a very important piece of software.
That's one of the reasons why it pains me to see birdsite things in nextcloud's feed here. This community is where the strongest advocates for NC can be found and treating it well is worth it.
@grmpyoldman@nextcloud@bes yeah, it's embarrassing. I don't think they're even reading the toots here. Fediverse seems to be a write-only medium for them.
This is a "satirical" drawing published in one of the biggest right-leaning weekly magazines in Poland.
I can't even start to describe how livid I am.
What kind of person do you have to be to come up with something like that? What kind of person would conflate and try to muddy the waters between victims of the biggest atrocity in human history, and those who committed it?
I am ashamed to live on the same planet as the author.
