@kensanata in an interesting twist and example of language evolution, how I pronounce it now *isn't* how I originally wrote the language. Even languages written and spoken by one person can evolve :)
@kensanata mine is also RPG related, but it's a long story...
So in 2nd ed. D&D, druids have their our druidic language. Playing a druid for a new campaign, and geek that I am, I decided to write my own language - just nouns and noun fragments, so I could name places/people/things. I based it on Welsh syllables, hence the vaguely Celtic feel.
"Gwmngilfen" was the name of my character's wolf companion, meaning "valiant protector". I rather liked it, and it's *never* taken :)
@cybette ewww, which app is that? I've got about 7 and I don't think any do that (except maybe Signal which needs a phone number, and thus only exists on one device...)
Was talking about Mastodon with an old-school sysadmin guy. We reached the realization that defederating from instances with no/bad moderation is essentially the same thing as blocking open relays back when you ran your own email server: open relays always end up getting used for spam, you block 'em to protect your users.
Email was and still is the first federated social network, so it already faced a lot of the same problems; we should study its solutions (and its failures).
@HerraBRE hehe, nice. I have to say I tend to lean with @jwildeboer on this, despite my toying around with alternate bootstraps. I usually opt for ODroid stuff now, native SATA, GigE ports, proper ARM64, what's not to like? :)
@jwildeboer@HerraBRE sure, I never intended to suggest NFS roots are what *you* want - my point is that if you can get it to pivot to a network device, it *must* be possible to get it to pivot to a USB device too.
Sure, native USB boot would be preferable, but it *should* be possible to do *something* if not :)
@HerraBRE@jwildeboer I'm not sure about PXE et al. but I did once manage to get a Pi to boot from a 128Mb SD card and pivot to an NFS root. I assume that same technique could be used to boot from other things...
