Self-awareness is a good thing; it's usually more preferable than the cringeworthy alternative. These days, though, there seems to be a slow but sure creep of self-awareness as a substitute for self-improvement.

    What I hope has occurred
is an unadmitted recognition, maybe subconscious in some cases, that there patently exists a compromise curve for tradeoffs between the amount one can take a stand against opposable ethics and the amount one is willing to compromise the current standards of life and convenience and cutting off the sources of the such.

I'd like to give a shoutout to Extra History for their effort into attempting more accurate pronunciation of Chinese names. Several are still quite incorrect, but this episode still goes much further than most vocal attempts towards correct Chinese pronunciation by non-Chinese people. Props, for instance, for correctly pronouncing the name 'Sun' as /swɛn/ ('swen').

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRXIbouYVck

Sidenote: Modern Chinese pronunciation. It's almost certain at the time pronunciation was different.
