Angela Merkel's last name looks odd if you're Norwegian. Literally so, because "merkelig" means "odd" in Norwegian. It's as if her last name were Unusu or Peculia in English; just missing those two extra letters to be complete...

All the people jumping to Elon Musk's defence reminds me of the one time when I attempted to complain about bus delays on the Facebook page of the bus company, and about a dozen people jumped to the defence of the company. I came to complain, not to have an argument with strangers. Also, stop defending companies, you brainless zombies...

Most people who discuss politics have no business doing so. 99% is highly biased personal viewpoints and baseless accusations against the other side, and everything is soaked in a thick soup of emotions that evaporates any hope of having a factual discussion. People don't want to know the truth. They want to believe in simple and emotionally satisfying narratives, and the real world doesn't work like that.

Hey, maybe...

1. Client is about to renew lease.
2. Client knows router might ping its current IP to see if it's free, so it stops responding to pings.
3. Client sends renewal request.
4. Server sees that the IP is free and acknowledges the request.
5. Client goes out of ping stealth mode.

In the case of a dynamic lease, it would make sense for a client to get out of the way in order to show that the old address is free.

@SuperFloppies I don't know what that means in the case of renewing static leases, which is the scenario here. What I'm seeing is that the clients become briefly unpingable during renewals. Since the intent is that they simply keep the same address, this doesn't seem like a good thing. I'm not sure how often it happens, since the execution of my network check script on the Mikrotik router doesn't always coincide with a DHCP renewal.

If you happen to ping a network client during a DHCP renewal, is it supposed to respond to ping requests?

I've noticed that whenever the execution of my scheduled network checking script happens to coincide with a client's DHCP renewal, that client briefly stops responding to pings, independently of which OS it is running, causing my script to flag it as down.

My main concern is that frequent DHCP renewals will cause service interruptions for the users.

I think my conclusion when it comes to my gender identity is as follows: If -5 is purely male and +5 is purely female, I'm somewhere around 0.

I can relate to men and women equally, but if they start acting like stereotypes around me, I feel like a fish out of water.

I wouldn't mind having a female body at all. I attach no particular value to my penis. The only issue I'd have with a female body is that I'd basically be this extremely tall lesbian. 😆
